Let Love Silence the Noise

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1.

The noise is deafening. It’s hard to think. Constant banging like a jackhammer. Words are constantly being spoken, and considering there are some 6500 languages in the world, a whole lot of words are being spoken. But a lot of people aren’t speaking words of hope or love. No, just the opposite. Some people believe it’s their job to tear down their perceived enemies, the people they just disagree with, and/or anyone who dares connect themselves with those people. They use words as their weapon of choice because words can cause some of the most destruction without the wielder getting bloody and can be deployed from anywhere in the world. If we only could stop and see that those we perceive as our enemy simply aren’t that at all. Maybe they just have a different view, perspective, or simply a different opinion. I have many views on so many things that differ from those people I’m closest to in the world, but that doesn’t cause me to always have to be right or destroy them with my words just because we disagree. I try to see their view, even if I don’t understand or agree with it and realize they are who they were made to be. Our differences are what make us beautiful in our special way. Let’s face it if we always agreed about everything, life would be way too simple and boring. Where’s the fun in that? We won’t even talk about the occasions when we turn out to be the one who is wrong…

Let’s all try to listen a little closer, and speak a little softer. Let’s try and be open to differing opinions and viewpoints. We may not always like it or agree, but we don’t have to break relationships over our differences. Let them be the soil that we all grow in and let us all become stronger because of it. I’m gonna be more open, and I’m gonna speak with kinder words and softer tones. I’m gonna love like there’s no tomorrow. I’m gonna live like today is my last day. I’m gonna hope that you will also. I’m gonna believe that when we do that the noise will subside a bit and that love will guide our way.

Gracious words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24
