When a Light Goes Quiet
I never knew Dolly Parton personally.
Like millions of others, I simply knew the pieces of herself she chose to share with the world.
The songs that told stories. The movies that made me laugh. That unmistakable laugh of her own. And somehow, beneath all the rhinestones, big hair, and larger-than-life personality, there always seemed to be something remarkably genuine about her.
Kindness.
She seemed to understand that you could believe deeply without demanding everyone believe like you. You could disagree without becoming cruel. You could laugh at yourself, love people who weren’t like you, and leave a little more goodness behind than you found.
Today, people who agree on almost nothing seem to agree that the world has lost someone special.
Maybe that’s part of her legacy too.
In a world increasingly determined to divide us, Dolly Parton reminded us that kindness still has the ability to cross the lines we draw between one another.
The light is a little quieter today.
But what a beautiful light it was.
We’ll Always Love You ❤️
