Cheese and Smiles
Cheese.. Ah cheese. I love cheese, probably not as much as my best friend Stephanie, but none the less, I love cheese. You know we have American, cheddar, gouda, provolone, muenster, Swiss and probably a thousand different kinds of cheeses, but the edible kind isn’t the cheese I want to talk about.
You also have the stinky kind that people blow out their backside (you know “who cut the cheese”) well that isn’t the cheese I wanna talk about either.
Then there’s the cheese a photographer uses to get us to smile during a photo shoot, now that’s the one I’d like to talk about (actually this blog is not at all about cheese, but a lot of people seem to love food blogs so I figured cheese might draw some attention). “Say cheese” or “smile” is what they usually say so we can get a pretty picture. Seems simple enough just to ask someone to smile, but what if your day is just sucking monkey butts and you don’t wanna smile, or what if you feel like crap, or you just flat out don’t want to smile? Just do it anyway. “Well if you felt like I do, you wouldn’t smile either” Yes I would! You might not see it at first, but I would. Sometimes it’s hard to smile because something is coming to an end, but as Dr Seuss says” Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened”.
A smile seems to have a favorable influence upon others and makes one likable and more approachable. I’ve learned something in the last few years; for me smiling starts the process of breaking the crappiness (yes I just made a new word) off of me so life can be amazing, and I don’t miss something while drowning in self pity or allowing circumstances or what someone else said or did bring me down.
Have I perfected it yet? No. I get up every morning, look in the mirror, smile at my half-alive self and say this is the day that I do something amazing, and it makes me smile. My intentions are always good and one day maybe I will change the world. Until then I’ll smile at myself, I’ll smile at my coworker, I’ll smile at my loved ones, I may even smile at you, and maybe in turn, that will change the world. Face it, when someone smiles at us (even if they aren’t our favorite person) it brings us comfort, hope and joy, and I want to give that as much as I can.
One of my favorite songs, that brings tears to my eyes and a smile to my face is “Smile” by Charlie Chaplin. My favorite part says ” Smile, though your heart is aching. Smile, even though it’s breaking. When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by, when you smile through your fear and sorrow. Smile and maybe tomorrow, you’ll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just Smile”. He’s right.
Life is amazing. It is worthwhile. If you ever lose sight of that, go find a mirror and smile at yourself. I promise it’ll make a difference.
Oh and my apologies if you thought I was gonna talk about food.
Sorry this was so cheesy.
