What’s a song lyric that has stuck with me forever?

That’s a difficult question for me to answer.

As a former worship leader, music has been woven into every season of my life. My mom was a singer, so there was always music around the house. Church music. Classic songs. Hymns. Country. Rock. A little bit of everything. If I’m honest, I’ve probably got hundreds of lyrics tucked away somewhere in my memory.

If you asked me again tomorrow, my answer might be completely different.

But today, these are the two that keep floating back to me.

“When peace like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.”

And…

“Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong and carry on…
‘Cause I know there’ll be no more tears in heaven.”
Looking at them side by side, I don’t think it’s an accident that they came to mind.

One is about learning to find peace in the middle of life’s storms.

The other is about loving someone enough to keep missing them, while holding on to the hope that grief isn’t the end of the story.

Maybe that’s why they’ve stayed with me.

The songs that linger aren’t always the catchiest ones. They’re the ones that quietly become part of your own story.

Tomorrow, I’d probably give you two completely different lyrics.
I’ve been accused of being a walking jukebox.

They’re probably not entirely wrong.
